Ben Shapiro? Is a thing?

Updated: Apr 2, 2021

I don't spend a lot of time in the dustier corners of the inter-web, so I've just discovered a bloke by the name of Ben Shapiro. What an odd little fellow he is!

If you've not heard of him, as best I can tell, he is some kind of semi-professional mosquito, who takes the logical reasoning of a Fox News Host, adds some kind of amphetamine, and squirts it at people like some kind of frightened, inking squid. I've not heard logic mangled like this by anyone other than the good folk at the AFL appeals tribunal who upheld the suspension of Nic Natanui on 'duty of care' grounds.

Take this tweet for example:

"I asked my 4-year-old daughter this morning whether she thought it would be more fun to have a job or be a mommy. She said, "To be a mommy, so I can cuddle my babies." Clearly, she has already been victimized by the patriarchy."

Wow.

Now, without wishing to over-analyse this, let's look at the top four problems here:

1. 'Job' and 'Mommy' are not mutually exclusive. 2. Dads cuddle babies, too. 3. Not sure the concept of fun is integral to the exploration of this issue. 4. She IS being victimised by the patriarchy - via the patriarchal framing of Shapiro's moronic question. It is he who is naturalising a gendered division that need not exist.

Apparently, he is quite popular. What an usual age we live in.

If you're a fan of his writing, you might need to do some self-reflection.
